Thomas S. Buechner:  Seeing a Life is an exhibition and a book.  It is not merely a retrospective exhibition of an artist.  It is the story of a life—its influences, ups and downs, and its legacy.  Tom Buechner has been a force in this community since he first came here in 1951.  He was the first director of the Corning Museum of Glass.  He moved to Brooklyn to be Director of the Brooklyn Museum from 1961 to 1971.   Tom returned in 1971 to become president of Steuben Glass division and later managed the Corning Foundation and the Glass Center.  All this time, Tom was a working artist.  The book accompanying the exhibition is a spiral bound notebook of sketches, paintings, original notebook pages--an informal portrait of a disciplined life.  It is a unique and successful concept.
